Makan angin

The family has decided to go on a vacation. The seven of us will be leaving for Jakarta tomorrow and just santai. We're also going to Bandung. Some say Bandung is Asia's shopping haven. I go there for the greens. And WaLe. The best baso I've ever tasted. But shopping is a plus.

Since husband and I never got to go on what people generally call a honeymoon, (we prefer "Trip as Husband and Wife", simply because by layman's definition, "honeymoon" is the only time for loads of love making and quality Husband and Wife time. By that definition of "honeymoon", that's everyday for us!) this is the perfect opportunity to have one. And it's better that we'll be with family.

Bastard-coated Bastards with Bastard fillings

I agree with Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso. Some people are just bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling. Ones who thirst for drama and green-with-envy ploys. Ones who act all nice in your presence but behind your back they'll laga kan you with someone who they think you have a falling-out with. Say, someone from your past. Or your spouses past.

When will they get it? Nobody cares. Life is way too grand to let anything spoil the now. I love my life. Sure. Some may measure me in terms of success and I'll come up short. I am currently unemployed. I have no idea what I want to do. Hence, some may dub me unsuccessful.

But I have succeeded in some fields of my life. I graduated high school well, Alhamdulillah. I have a Bachelor's degree. I am happily and wonderfully married. I am healthy, Alhamdulillah. The family is, Alhamdulillah blessed with everything and yet I was raised in a humble surrounding. We have never known what hunger meant. More than a roof over our heads. Comfortable. Yes. I am successful.

And still, I find these bastards whisper sweet nothings as though to tempt me to make a scene or... something. I don't know. But I know this, they are so barking up the wrong tree. Nothing can provoke me to act out of character. While some may think I, too, can be a bastard-coated bastard with bastard filling (yes, I can. I do not deny it), I was raised to be a decent person. So no scenes will be initiated by this bastard. This bastard will walk away. This bastard-coated bastard with bastard filling knows better.

You should too.

Analog Heart. Restless. Terrified.

I can't sleep. When I do sleep, it isn't sound. I am irritable. I am concerned. I worry. I can feel my brain wearing out it's cells. I can feel the blood pressure rising.

I am terrified of the "What if"s. Naturally. We're human. But "What if"s aren't good for you. The mind, especially. I turn to my Husband for wisdom and distraction. I drown myself in music, more specifically, The Backstreet Boys, some Keane and little bit of David Cook, for some peace. Yes. I'm bitten by the talent. And I've just recently got myself David Cook's award winning album "Analog Heart". I actually had this rush of excitement whilst browsing David Cook's MySpace page and he was online at the same time. Well, assuming that it was him. Playing "Analog Heart" + moderately loud volume = peace. Mission; distraction - achieved.

Moving along. With everything that's silently going on in my head, I forgot to pick up Aelyza's birthday cupcakes for the party. Am praying the shop doesn't sell it off. Will pick it up first thing in the morning, InsyaAllah. Oh, I feel terrible.

I wonder what goes on in other people's mind when grave news is delivered. Especially spouses. Parents. Children. Siblings. As a daughter, I certainly can't begin to describe the jungle of emotions. The flood gates are open. And funny how they use the word "grave" to describe that things are, in deed, bad.

Husband is sleeping. I should take my place next to him now. And Dad. I love you. So much. Only Allah s.w.t. knows the intensity of it.

Anis.

Dreaming of Cook; Part Deux

So it is David Cook who won American Idol. Hmph. Who knew? It was really unexpected. Suppose the dream was a 'revelation' of some sorts. *chuckles* Truth be told, I would have liked it if he didn't win. This is because, minus Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson and maybe Jordin Sparks, those who won vanish from the face of the earth. Think Taylor Hicks and your brain will go "Who?".

Here's hoping David Cook'll have a flourishing career.

Singing Billy Jean, here's David Cook.

Dreaming of Cook

So yeah. I am up at 3am from a relatively great slumber. All because of a dream. A dream of David Cook! Seriously, WHAT? I am not even a fan. I hardly watch Idol. I certainly do not root for anyone although I know the other puny, mommy-what's-puberty-mean?, baby-faced David will take the crown.

So I dreamt that both Cook and I were taking out the trash and started talking about why we couldn't go on as a couple. The speech was about him living the dream of dreams. And in the dream, I remembered feeling sad. But supportive. Then, there was a wrestling match in our house and the house was remarkably trashed. In all seriousness, a relationship discussion and a wrestling match? What could it all mean? I tell you what. I. Do. Not. Care. I just want to sleep!

So yeah. Now I'm up. Irritated. I'm sleepy. But I cannot go back to sleep.

*mutters under breath with visible irritation and giving the evil eye* DAVID COOK.

Celebrations

Do a lil' dance. Make a lil' love. Get down tonight.

So many things to celebrate. First of all, there's the celebration of my Husband's slow (yet consistent) recovery. Fever hasn't returned for two days now. Alhamdulillah. What I am worried about is the sores in his mouth and on his lower lip. None on his feet and/or hands so we can pencil out:
Hand, Foot & Mouth disease

However, to be on the safe side, we have an appointment with our specialist. Looked for a general surgeon and dermatologist. InsyaAllah he can help us understand more on what's going on, health-wise. Blood test is probable.

For Kanda, my Husband

Then there's Aelyza's birthday party this weekend. She's so big now. Learning how to walk really quickly (and efficiently, I might add). Mulut bising macam mak nenek although she hasn't formed words yet. Just the coo-ing and the babbling. I am really excited about the party. Her mother and I made the decorations ourselves. Ordered two boxes of Cuppacakes. There'll probably be satay. I can't wait. I hope more of my friends would show up. A baby's first birthday isn't only a big day for parents but aunts and uncles too.

Also this weekend, is Tini & Syakir's wedding. I am really excited about that one too. It's so nice to attend a wedding and it's an honour to be invited. You get to share one of the finest moments in a couple's life. It's priceless. She's going to be radiant. And exhausted beyond words. But she's going to love every second of it. I remember my petite friend and her aspiring Lawyer-husband's wedding last December. We were lost in Kajang but Alhamdulillah we made it before the event was over. Tired as she was that evening, she was still the radiant bride. And ecstatic. And now preggers too! Alhamdulillah.

As for us, once Matt feels better and recovered fully, it's baby-making time! Do a lil' dance. Make a lil' love. Get down tonight!

As is

It's been a week and my Husband is still unwell. Fever is manageable although it sneaks up on us quite frequently late at night. I've stopped giving him the antibiotics and other meds the doctors gave. It seems that my husband is allergic to something and is having a reaction. The insides of his mouth and his lips have some sort of sores. I'm worried. But kita dah usaha, and now we tawakal. Got him Difflam Mouth Gel and Difflam gargle, and boosted up his Vit C with Blackmores, so insyaAllah we'll see what happens.

Despite being sick, my husband is his cheery, energetic self. Loving, most definitely. Aelyza's first birthday was on May 17th. She and her family were in Melaka at the time. Her dad had a company golf tournament. So, the parents plus my Husband and myself decided to go down to them and celebrate. It was grand! She's gotten so big!

Other happenings of the past week(s) include watching a lot of TV and movies. To much scrutiny of material-driven people, I enjoy my time being a housewife. I am not eager to dive into the 'career' world. I am content where I am. As is.

Speaking of 'As is', a lot of women nowadays (at least that's what I see on TV i.e. Cashmere Mafia, Sex and the City) put much emphasis on career. Hey! Whatever floats your boat right?! But what I cannot stand is that they actually feel sorry for married women. Hah! Regardless that some women are miserable in their marriages but to generalize being married as a sorry state is just pitiful.

I am married. And I am happy. My life is better than it was before. I still have the wonderful perks of what my life was (the time to the self, etc) and I have a wonderful man that I am sharing my life with. I love me, my life, As is. And I sure love my husband, As is.

Then there's the married/engaged/with partner women who feel sorry for single women. They'd point to the party of one table where a lone woman sits and enjoys her meal, tutting and whispering how sorry they are for women who are only driven by careers. That's just wrong. I believe that if one can love life 'As is', despite being single or married or divorced or a single mom, and not sigh and feel sorry for themselves and the things they supposedly lack, no one can take that power and will from them. I applaud these people.

Life should be enjoyed 'As is'. Allah s.w.t is great and knows you best. You deserve exactly what you deserve. Be it good or bad, it's always the best for you. So be thankful. As is.

Catch

My husband caught a certain airborne virus that is supposedly caused by the freak weather that we are experiencing today. Tonsil inflammation possibly caused by some food we bought at a not-so-hygienic place. Temperature spiking on-and-off at 38/39°C. I was terrified. My husband hasn't been sick, not even a slight cold, for the past year. So, him being sick was new to me.

Alhamdulillah, two trips to two different doctors and constant sponging down with ice water finally showed improvements, health wise. He's resting a lot, as he should be.

I love my husband so much. Even when he's unwell, he would still get up and help around the house. The dishes. The laundry. The bed. He even washed the bathroom this morning while I was sleeping. When asked why, he'll give me this moment's pause which screams, "Because I love you". After the pause is done, he'll come up with a witty retort that always makes me laugh. My macho man!

When I hang out with my old friends who's never known Matt, they'll always pull me aside at the end of the hour or so and whisper "Great catch". They all say, I'm married to the perfect man. And I am. Alhamdulillah. Unlike other's relationship I've witnessed, both friends' and relatives', I am in a marriage and relationship where Matt and I are a team. Down to the most minuscule detail, like laundry, dishes or washing Curby, we'll always do it together. For that I am thankful to Allah s.w.t. It is such a blessing.

I don't agree that Matt's a good catch, on my part, but on the part of 'us', he is, because when I was crashing from something so destructive, he caught me. And because of that, I am never on cloud nine as people in love would say. I am in love, loved, and grounded. Which serves as a great stability in our relationship and marriage. As for "love" + "cloud nine", I've had first-hand experience. The winds can change and you'll fall. Fast. And hard. I can tell you this, the results are never good, for hearts break upon impact. Therefore, I am thankful to have been "caught" by Matt. And grounded.

Friends...Glorious Friends...

Salaam, readers and well wishes are handed to you. One fartly hopes that you, of all, are sound.

This is a moment that I wish to take for myself, to sum up my reactions to the actions of this past few days. Observe, if you wish, but hold judgment. Slay insecurities at its throat, for now, this moment is mine alone. I gladly share them with you.

Attend...

I am one of those few that think of friendship as a come-and-go sort of business. As you grow up, people you hold dear may be the ones who wipe the blade that graced your rear clean, on your clothes.

Those you least admire may be the ones that hold sway over you, mayhaps for superfluous reasons, or even, (should you choose to look FURTHER, and SEE) for reasons that are honorable, respectful. Beautiful. Should you be able to do so, count yourself lucky. You are blessed. Believe that.

Admire...

Friends, to me, are UNSHAKABLE when it comes to these Requisites that I feel encompass all man, to be used as FRIEND:

1) Have your back, like a wall that will stand tests of grandeur (time).

2) Defend your honour, at any time your honour is impeded upon.

3) Come what may, to stand by YOUR SIDE.

UNTIL PROVEN UNWORTHY OF YOUR FRIENDSHIP.

Attest...

One has the mind to enable one's self to make choices. The right choices may not be righteous, but they sure as heaven's cup feel RIGHT. Why defend your friend for the WRONG reasons?
Why be misled by RIGHT, when you know YOUR friend is WRONG?

One cannot, and should not voice these exaggerations, unless one has considered possible and probable notions that may influence one's execution of MIND. For example:

1) Consider what your friend has told you.

If you have reason to doubt, VOICE IT. Why condemn the innocent when your friend pulled
the trigger that ended a smile? And you saw it.

2) When faced with proof, DO THE RIGHTEOUS THING.

Why doubt, when you have proof? Why not question integrity and moral values, while you're at it? Why be less than homo sapiens, and more like algae?(Algae has a low mortality rate, due to its ADHERING quality...hint hint.)

Consider...

I compose what has been composed not only to rant and rave (whatever that means), but also to swerve your manner of thought, into what I feel is right. In the end, the choice to condemn is your, no mistake of it, yet how many lives are snuffed out everyday, when we do EASY instead of RIGHTEOUS... I shudder to wonder if the cheddar is as spectacular as the maker hollers (hope that is the correct way of writing it).

Succeed...

I am not perfect. I am unique. As are you. I, today, attest that I shall deal with friends and so-called friends as is required. RIGHTEOUSLY.

Thank you, Our Kakaks for all your support and love. You have been righteous to me since time immemorial, and I love you both for it. A bro.ken heart mends well with such company.

That was for you, my B from another M.

I heartily thank my Wife, for when in doubt, she shines the light that I amke use of to find my path. She is the Carbonara to which I am the smoked chicken, a delectable delight, I assure you.You are Fire, of which the forge is Kept Hot. Shoes, pans and swords are rigorous in production, Shade of My Heart.

I Am Yours.

And so, as twilight dawns, and spending of time cease, so to must I lay, and ponder my words, my advice to us all. May we be righteous, at the cost of truth. Eat well, sleep convincingly, for any morning can be our last, and any night a beginning to a path only dreams can vividly teach.

Fare thee well. Until Next Time.

Matthekage,
Your Friend.

The Queen

I remember the time when I was in school and when I had friends over, they'll always have the same thing to say at the end of the day; "Your parents are SO cool".

Oh yeah! I have the coolest parents. A über hip mother. As Dr. Randy Pausch would say, I won the Parent Lottery.

My mother was always my best friend. We never have fights. We have intellectual conversations and arguments, even when I was a little girl. She always knew the right things to say. She's super wise, and not just bookish wise, but street wise too.

I see her picture way back when she was in college. Long hair to the waist. Center parting. Funky clothes from the '70s. And her smile. She's always smiling. She is beautiful.

She never has anything bad to say about anyone. Even the one(s) who broke my heart. She always has nice things to say. Positive. I wish I could be like her. I hate. She doesn't.

She's strong. And selfless. She's amazing. The Queen of queens.

Happy Mother's Day

Sugar High

I absolutely love the kitchen. I love cooking. Cooked an elaborate Italian lunch today, by the way. Complete with pasta, garlic bread, salads and two different kinds of cheese. Oh, and dessert. The glory of dessert.

I actually baked a whole batch of cupcakes the night before, seeing as how my Husband had cravings, and since the cupcakes from Cuppacakes won't be ready until Aelyza's party on the 24th. So, I baked! The process tested my patience a little because the cupcakes were taking so long to bake. But, after a little tweak with the temperature, all is good... and so bloomin' worth it.

Real proud of it. Made the icing from scratch. It was snow white and so opaque. Decided to make some with colour. The upside was that it wasn't diabetes-inducing sweet. It was just nice, thanks to the lemon juice. I suppose the acid neutralized the sweetness.

Even then, the whole house is high on sugar. :D

I definitely had an awesome time baking with Matt. Things are just way better when you do it together, and you really enjoy it as well as each other's company.

Reminiscing

In our bedroom, I made a picture wall of Matt and myself (sort-of wall), capturing different moments at different times of our lives. Every night before I sleep or every morning when I rise, I'd always find that picture in front of me. And every time, a picture would catch my attention and I would let my mind reminisce.

One picture jolted a memory I had almost forgotten.

Back when we were at the University, I would always try and stay on campus as long and as late as I can, so that I can be with Matt, before bracing the long and lonely road back to Kota Damansara. I'd drive my trusted blue Kancil we named Curby from wherever my class was and park in the parking space in front of his dormitory/hostel building. We'd buy a hotdog or a sandwich for dinner and we'd sit on Curby's roof, enjoying our unhealthy meals, basking in each other's company. One night, there was a full moon in the sky. And I lost count of how many times I fell in love with Matt that night. Our conversations. Our bond. Our future. That moment, I was floating and full of glee. I was in love.

I still am. And it's all because of you, Husband.

Husband. I love you so dearly. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Thank you for my wonderful everydays. And our tomorrows. InsyaAllah.

I Still...

Earlier today, I saw an interview between Ryan Seacrest and the New Kids on the Block. Oh. My. Goodness. New Kids on the Block. NKOTB. It's been sooooooo long since I've heard that name. They have a new single out and they're making a "comeback". What is it with comebacks lately? I think it kicked off with the reunion of Take That (minus Robbie Williams). Then there was All Saints. Then, the Spice Girls. Then it was the Eagles. Now, NKOTB.

I do not like NKOTB other than Donnie Walhberg (I simply loved him in Band of Brothers and Boomtown) and "Step by Step". So, the reunion news did not pass as exciting news. But something Seacreast said that jolted me. Something about claiming the Boyband title (or was it throne?) from the Backstreet Boys. What?!

Backstreet Boys. J'adore. I love. In my book, it will always be the Backstreet Boys. So, in honour of the Backstreet Boys, I would like to list down some of their songs that I love and why.

Song: Lay Down Beside Me
Album: Backstreet Boys

Considering that I heard this song when I was 10 years old, I didn't quite understand it. It wasn't until later, much later, that I learnt that the song was talking about the intimacy between a man and a woman. I would blush every time I listened to this song after that. However, I still love the song. I love it not so much because of the song, but the innocence that I revisit when I hear this song and I am taken back to the moments where I would sing along to this song and not know what it really meant.

Song: More Than That
Album: Black and Blue

The beat of this song is superb. The video made me fall in love with the video more. Something about the simplicity of shooting a video in what looks like an aircraft hangar with a white backdrop and a projector playing random scenery clips compliments the song.

Song: I Still...
Album: Never Gone

Oh my. Where to I begin with this song? I love it so much that from the moment I bought the album, it's been on repeat-play. I feel this song's soul. Whatever that means. But I do. My all-time favourite song. And not just from BSB. All-time. Overall. Favourite.

Song: Poster Girl
Album: Never Gone

"Very philosophical" is all I can say about this song. A song I love listening to when I'm driving (when I drive, that is). You can just belt out along with the song and hear it speak such wisdom to you.

Song: Climbing the Walls
Album: Never Gone

If "You had me at Hello" is the winning line for Jerry Macguire, the this song's winning line, for me, is

Take my hand, take my life
Just don't take forever

*contented sigh*

Song: Any Other Way
Album: Unbreakable

I love this song because, in my opinion, it speaks of being a sucker for love. Even if the person is obviously wrong for you. Strong feelings are hard to deny, no matter how shitty the other person makes you feel.

Song: Unmistakable
Album: Unbreakable

I liked this song. Didn't love it though. Until. The concert! Oh, the Unbreakable Tour in Malaysia was awesome. The routine for this song. Brian's voice. The atmosphere at Sunway. Priceless. And because of that night, I fell in love with this song.

Song: Panic!
Album: Unbreakable

I have no idea what this song it about yet I find it so philosophical.

When the snow hits your skin
The cold don't last forever but you're living again
If you don't live seasons change

Deep. Meaningful. Love.

Song: Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
Album: Backstreet's Back

Having witnessed the classic dance routine on stage (also All I Have To Give's fedora routine) is enough to make a Backstreet fan die happy. This song is the theme to/for Backstreet Boys. Just like "Oops, I Did It Again" is Britney Spears'.

Cinco de Mayo

Today is a great day. One of the great days I've been blessed to experience. Not only is today the day Mexicans commemorate the Mexican forces' triumph over the French which delayed the French invasion in Mexico about a century and a half ago, today is also the day I am officially a former student of the University.

Somewhat like the Mexicans, I am triumphant over the challenges that the University has thrown my way. This. Today. Is my personal version of Cinco de Mayo. I now hold a Bachelor's Degree. Some may think it's nothing. But it's a whole lot to me. And I am proud of it.

When doing "clearance", getting around the University, hunting signatures is so much easier when you have a Husband chauffeuring you around to get from one end of the University to the other. I love you my Hubby-bi. My heartiest thanks, my Life.

On another triumphant note, I also got myself a pair of flip-flops. Crazy cool flip-flops. Gisele Bundchen's Ipanema flip-flops. It's not that I hunt for brands and then buy them. I just like these pair of flip-flops. They just happen to be from the GB's Ipanema line.

Other things I bought without looking at the brand but I just really really liked it:
1) M by Mariah Carey
2) Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker
3) Ralph Lauren's cardigans

And most of the stuff, I got it at the airport. Which is duty-free and much cheaper.

Another week and month gone

Salaam.

Wow. How time flies. It literally just zooms by. Without knowing it, these things have happened (not necessarily in the span of last week and/or in the order listed):

a) Aelyza was born. Felt like it was yesterday that my sister in-law's water broke, with me having to mop it up at 4am.
b) After much heart-wrenching fights with stubborn mules, Matt and I were engaged.
c) I finally had one semester left at the University.
d) Matt and I are married!
e) I graduated from the University with a Second Class (Upper) Honours *I think* Didn't make the First Class due to the 0.04 points I did not manage to secure.
f) We're planning for Aelyza's first birthday. That girl will turn one on May 17th, InsyaAllah.
g) Doctors found that Dad had suffered a major heart attack which none of us knew about including Dad. Hence, it's a medical miracle.

We shall make the best of the time we have now. InsyaAllah. Things have been crazy. Good crazy. I am still nervous about finding a job. I think I'll only start looking late June, due to certain circumstances. And plus the fact that I'm too scared to work. I'm a baby. I'm spoilt. And I'm proud of it.

Will step up to the plate when I need to. But right now, I'm just enjoying my excessive free time. Don't think it's not productive though. I'm a housewife. And it's an honour to be one.

Dough Me Up Wei...

Salaam to all, and a most beneficial day I wheat-fully wish you...

As mentioned forehand, My Wife decided to be herself and lovingly aided everyone in adjusting to a new facet of our pittance life. Baking was her weapon of mass adoration, Suave was her calling, Stuffed stomaches was our cursed delight ... hehe.

Not so cursed I should say.

First it was brownies. Well, let me tell you a story about My Wife's brownies... MY brownies, if you'll fart away the misdemeanor formed round that previous speck of a statement. Another time.

Then, we were bombarded with cookies. They were everywhere, assaulting us from every pore, stifling our wanton cries of virgin innocence, ergo " NO! CANNOT EAT!!! BADAK DAH BANYAK DAH NI!!!". Hope you see the painted words.

Time for slumber. May you find solace in these simple stimulus - Regardless of whether it's EAT TO LIVE or LIVE TO EAT- shit is bound to happen so in the end, DOES OT MATTER?

Take care. xoxo Mother Podridgers.

P.S. James Blunt BATU-BATU!!!

Megs For Brains

Salaam to all.

A quickie.

Labour Day @ Home

Dad and the family are home. Alhamdulillah. So, in the effort of "getting better", I decided to bake. Since my Husband and I just bought an oven earlier in the week, we thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to violate its virginity.

The lovely new oven

First on the list, Chocolate Chunk Brownies! Did not manage to take a picture of that because sekelip mata everything was gone. That made me proud. Then, rasa macam nak bake lagi so whipped up some dough and made Chocolate Chip cookies.

The chocolate chip cookie dough

I loved the smell of the house when I was baking. Reminds me of Raya. Then like in the cartoons, the hand-like smoke of the baking-fragrance creeps under the noses of everyone in the house and draws them to the kitchen. The first two trays of the cookies were gone before the next tray was popped into the oven. The feeling was awesome.

COOKIES!!!

Made the cookies in tiny bitty rounds in the beginning, but tak puas makan since it was so small. So I decided to make them a little bigger. The bake was a success. I loved how it brought everyone together and gave Dad's healing process a headstart. He looks better already, Alhamdulillah. Baking is therapeutic. Or shall I say, the by-product of bake is therapeutic.

Anis

Hospitals and Faith

On a spiritual note, I feel a great inclination to thank my Husband. It is with him that I have found a new sense of faith. I wouldn't say restore, because my faith has always been there. It was just buried by ignorance and other worldly matters.

The trip to the hospital and seeing before my eyes the greatness of Allah s.w.t in the form of the medical miracle that is my father, I feel a fresh divine palm print on my cheek (the face cheek, not the other), jolting me back to reality. I am at loss for words. I am, however, very much grateful and thankful to Allah s.w.t.

The hospital. My father; Ariff Rahman. My husband. My entire family. All are experiences of God's greatness. I am truly blessed. And beloved.

The next miracle and greatness of Allah s.w.t we're planning to experience is the addition to our own family. A baby. We are trying for a child, InsyaAllah.

Excited,
Anis
