Project Couch

The landlord left the couch in the picture below in the apartment. Not to sound ungrateful but the material is scratchy and it smells of musk. Even after half a bottle of Febreeze, I still feel gross sitting on it.


So we threw a comforter over it, like so. But it was not a pretty thing to look at. We wanted to get a new couch for ourselves but there won't be anywhere to put this old couch. We asked the landlord what are we to do with it and he said "Just throw it out". But it's still in a good condition. To throw it out would be a waste.


Then, a trip to IKEA gave me an idea. Armed with a sewing machine, shears, a staple gun and fabric, Project Couch commenced.

Eid

Happy Eid ul Fitr

The cookies and tart - not so traditional, but we're setting our own traditions.

And it's homemade.

Made 3 batches of chocolate chip cookies.
The first was gone before Eid, thanks to my two cookie monsters.

The pineapple tart was my first solo attempt.
I've bake the tarts before but always as an assistant, never the baker.
Did everything from scratch.

The dough was slightly crumbly, but Husband rescued it.
(He's got that special touch to healing things).
Grated pineapples with the arms were sore and hands smelled like pineapples when I went to bed.
The cookie/tart cutter died on us, so we shaped the dough into a crater-like shapes by hand.
Husband filled the tarts with generous amount of pineapple filling.

Everything was special, not because it was homemade,
but because we did it together - as a family.
Even our son had a hand in it (pun intended :D).

This is what Raya is. What Eid is.
Not the lame, unoriginal death/poverty-themed commercials that loops on TV.
